Can I start working a new job prior to my severence package qualification date?

My package indicates I need to be an employee ‘in good standing’ until 11/1 in order to collect it. I have tons of time off due to me that I want to take. Also I landed a job that wants me to start asap. Is there any legal ramifications if I take personal time off AND start the new job prior to 11/1? (I heard if there’s issues with SS tax or other tax brackets it would trigger a notice to my current company).

When job hunting, is it legal for an employer to refuse a paper application & send you to a website?

I have a friend looking for a job and is refused a paper application and in return being asked to go to a website to apply. He does not have easy access to the web and is therefore requesting a paper application. And he is not the only one. My neighbor is now complaining of the same thing.
Now, obviously I allow him to use my computer and phone as a job hunting source, but I think it bothers him. I understand the complaint as well, applying online is usually long and tedious with no call backs.

How do evade your nosy present employer from seeing your job search on the internet?

Specifically, the present employer can see the job searches on the job search sites and routinely looks. If he sees my name on there, I would most likely be fired on the spot. I am not happy, and feel trapped. I asked this question before and received an answer about not doing it from work. It does not matter where I put my resumes in if he looks on the job site. What to do?
