I just received a rejection email for a job that I applied online for. I was a perfect fit for the position. I met or exceeded all of their hiring criteria and sent my resume within a few days of the job posting on the internet. They never even called me for an interview.

I’m planning to email them back. I’d like to find out why they weren’t interested in interviewing me and if it would make sense for me to apply for other jobs with them in the future.

What should I say in the letter?

I set aside 3-4 hours a day to search various companies websites and apply for jobs yet, I have had NO feedback. I think that I should have gotten at least a couples nibbles. Having never been unemployed before, I am feeling very discouraged and my self-esteem is really starting to nosedive. My brother says that I should expect a job search to take 3-6 months. This however just made her worse. Finally, I just quit. I am getting negative job references and don’t know how to explain to prospective employers why I resigned and why my references are not good. I was a good worker however this boss not only targeted my co-worker for the first two years, but she then targeted me for the next three years after that. Please advise. My commute can be 4 hours round trip, I’m underpaid, company culture, etc. I heard that since I’m just starting a career I can switch jobs in 6 months.
